Dedicated Instance
I was the only designer on Webex Calling’s single-tenant cloud for four and a half years, through a rebrand and the migration of on-prem UCM administration into Control Hub.
context/
Large enterprises ran Cisco’s on-prem calling platform, UCM, and wanted the same thing as a dedicated cloud instance without giving up the features and compliance posture they depended on. I joined during the UCM Cloud era, just before it became Dedicated Instance inside Webex Calling in 2021.
role/
Sole UX designer and IC, late 2021 through May 2026: continuous single ownership of the surface for roughly four and a half years.
what i drove/
- The rebrand from UCM Cloud to Dedicated Instance across the admin experience.
- Moving on-prem admin capabilities into Control Hub: launching the legacy UC apps from one place, directory sync against Azure AD and on-prem AD, analytics, status monitoring, and alarm definitions.
- Wizard-driven activation and multi-cluster management for large, multi-region deployments.
- Compliance dashboards surfacing ports, protocols, and data residency, exportable so enterprise security teams could run their review and approve the deployment.
outcome/
I carried the surface alone for about four and a half years. The compliance and multi-cluster patterns set precedents for how Control Hub handles large-scale deployments.
